D7 Resin Information
The Industrial Blend resin has been developed especially for some industrial clients who were in need for a resin that is extra hard and would maintain its structural integrity while exposed to very Low and High temperatures.
Because of these properties i. Clear is the only XYZ resin tested so far with the D7. Objects c. Snow White is the first resin in this market segment that is white, and stays white!
Nanodlp SW Profile 40 micron.Developed specifically with investment casting in mind, Castable Resin burns out cleanly with no ash or residue. Use Formlabs Castable Resin to produce detailed fine jewelry through the investment casting process. Castable Resin is an acrylate photopolymer, which requires a different process from a traditional wax schedule. Instead of melting at low temperatures, Castable Resin transitions to a gas.
The recommended burnout schedule is designed and tested to allow Castable Resin to transition into a gas gradually. The slow transition reduces the possibility of the investment cracking due to rapid expansion of the printed part. Some customers have reported success in casting Formlabs Clear Resin. More advanced casting houses familiar with successfully casting photopolymers may want to try this material, which offers high detail, good surface finish, and a faster cure cycle.
This is an abbreviated version of the complete instructions in the application guide Introduction to Casting for 3D Printed Jewelry Patterns [en]. Read the application guide for detailed instructions about design, settings, and part orientation for Castable Resin. Casting is both a skill and an art form.
For successful results, the design of the piece to be cast is as important as the material properties. Follow Formlabs print setup instructions to open the model in PreForm, orient it, generate supports, and select print settings. Castable Resin print settings are optimized for printing jewelry, with a focus on achieving the features and detail that matter to jewelers.
For the majority of designs, printing with the 50 micron layer height provides the best results and superior print speeds. Agitate Castable Resin by shaking the cartridge and mixing resin in the resin tank before printing. Castable Resin contains a component, called titanium dioxide, that separates from the rest of the mixture when left unused. The separation appears as white crystalline or flake-like deposits, often on the outside of the resin tank or printed part.
Mix the resin regularly to maintain normal resin performance. Do not leave parts in IPA longer than necessary. The Form Wash agitates the alcohol bath and removes parts from the bath after a set time.
Make sure the IPA is fully evaporated prior to post-curing and casting, as it could interfere with the investment and cause pitting. To maximize part strength and increase part integrity in the investment, prints made with Castable Resin should be fully and evenly post-cured on all surfaces.
Post-curing solutions vary widely in terms of heating capability, light wavelength, and output. UV nail salons prove an effective entry-level solution, partly because the parts are typically placed very close to the bulbs. Higher cure temperatures provide a faster cure, but make sure to inspect parts for warping. Rotate parts during post-curing to ensure even exposure to the light and heat. The Form Cure will automatically rotate parts, but if using another method, it may be necessary to manually flip or rotate parts during the post-cure.
During post-curing, part color might change from bright blue to dark, matte blue. This photobleaching is a natural effect of some types of light. If a portion of the part is photobleached, this is one indicator of sufficient light exposure.Parts printed in Castable Wax Resin are ready to cast after washing without post-curing for fast, clean burnout and a streamlined casting process.
Use Formlabs Castable Wax Resin to produce highly detailed jewelry by casting parts through direct investment casting with minimal part finishing no post-cure required. Castable Wax prints are strong enough to use for prototyping and fitting before production. Parts printed in Castable Wax are ready to cast after washing without post-curing for fast, clean burnout and a streamlined casting process. Understand the step-by-step workflow, recommendations, burnout schedules, and special considerations for designing models, printing, preparing investments, and casting successfully with Castable Wax Resin.
Castable Wax Resin is an acrylate photopolymer formulated with liquid wax to enable a burnout process similar to a traditional wax schedule.
Castable Wax Resin prints parts with high mechanical strength in their green state when compared to parts printed in Castable, which requires post-curing. As a result of the high strength, Castable Wax is particularly suitable for large patterns and for patterns with delicate features and high surface detail requirements.
To learn more about the performance properties of each Formlabs resin, refer to the library of material properties datasheets. This is an abbreviated version of the complete instructions in Introduction to Casting for 3D Printed Jewelry Patterns [en].
Read the application guide for detailed instructions about design, settings, and part orientation for Castable Wax Resin. Casting is both a skill and an art form. The design of the piece to be cast is as important as the material properties for successful results.
Pay attention to the design of individual features, the flow of material in the investment, and the printing configuration.
Learn more about the best design parameters for common jewelry features, such as prongs, filigree, engraving, surfaces, raised text, and milgrain, in the Designing for 3D printed jewelry white paper English only from Formlabs. Follow Formlabs print setup instructions to open the model in PreForm, orient it, generate supports, and select print settings. The PreForm print settings for Castable Wax Resin are optimized for printing jewelry and quality cast parts, with a focus on achieving the features and detail that matter to jewelers.
Open Mode must be toggled off to print with Castable Wax Resin. Shake the resin cartridge and mix resin in the resin tank to agitate Castable Wax Resin before printing. Mix the resin regularly to maintain or restore expected resin performance. Rinse for five minutes in a second, cleaner IPA bath to eliminate any remaining uncured material. The Form Wash agitates the alcohol bath and removes parts from the bath after a set time.
Do not leave parts in IPA longer than necessary. If the pattern is hollow, ensure liquid resin is flushed out thoroughly from internal channels and hollows. Ensure all IPA on washed parts evaporates completely prior to casting because the IPA can interact with the investment and cause pitting.

BC Original is the most famous BlueCast resin.Casting Tutorial
BlueCast was the first world castable resin don't need UV curing. BlueCast LS has been developed for filigree jewellery and it makes easier the creation of very light jewelry that is not feasible with traditional rubber molds. It has been formulated for high-details with thin walls and crisp features.
LS allows perfect casting quality and this implies necessity of minimum post-process after casting. BlueCast X5 has been designed in order to help jewelers in realizing difficult models where dimensional accuracy and structural qualities are required. X5 is raw material based on a synthetized oligomer produced by BlueCast, for which patent is going to be applied.
Using Castable Resin
Thank to this resin, it is possible reach outstanding direct casting quality with any type of investment. X5 fits all jewelry needs from filigree to medals as well dental ones. Printed parts are strong enough to be handled without post-cure process, allowing for a faster, simpler workflow. BlueCast X10 is the evolution of our well known X5 polymer and it is useful for direct investment casting of jewelry and dental patterns.

Thickness: 50 Curing Time: 5. Sometimes WaxCast will not properly adhere to certain build platforms. In order to fix this problem, one or both of the following suggestions should be tried: Roughen up the build platform with coarse sandpaper 80 grit Smear a thin layer of non-WaxCast resin onto the build platform and either expose it to the sun or place it in a UV curing box for a few minutes.
Then print on that surface. Since WaxCast is a casting resin, it tends to be somewhat structurally weak. If you find your base and supports are printing fine but the model isn't sticking to the supports, increase your support structure and the contact point size from the support structure to your model. Sometimes just increasing the exposure time of the base will rectify the problem.
